October 2007
  ITP Business Publishing

It was GITEX, GITEX, GITEX in August and September as the ITP Business team put in another awesome performance at the Middle East's largest trade exhibition.

It was touch and go in the weeks running up to GITEX though, as the Summer exodus and market apathy made it look as if the formidable sales target would not be reached. But thanks to a final week flurry and active selling down at the show itself, the sales team nudged over its target on the final day of GITEX. Editorial also played a blinder at the show, accommodating countless requests to 'be nice' to clients and dealing effortlessly with all Matthew's flatplan changes.

Sevag and his photography team again showed how good they've become at trade shows. Not a single photo shoot was missed and not a single photo went missing.

Helping ensure that this year's 16 show dailies actually happened were Subahar and Mohammed. In just a few hours on a Friday afternoon, they set up a press room with 25 networked PCs in and kept it running throughout the five days of the show.

Thanks to Dan and his marketing team, ITP and its brands were everywhere at GITEX. The ACN Arab Technology Awards evening was particularly impressive, and goes down as one of the company's most successful awards dinners to date.

Many thanks to everyone who made this year's GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK another resounding success.

Back in the office, a new hardline approach from Neil Baker meant there were almost no instances of 'last-minute-front-cover syndrome' last month. Concepts were decided upon early and most covers were done by the middle of the month. Well done to the entire editorial team.

Getting all those covers out early meant that Neil had plenty of time to design a mere two new magazines in September. Both PMV and Architecture looked the part and surely have a great future ahead of them. Congratulations to Jeff Roberts, Emily Potts, Charlotte Butterfield, Stuart Matthews and Neil Baker on the new launches.

Women's Lifestyle:

Emirates Home
Two girls, one magazine! Special thanks go to Samar Sadik who has been of invaluable help not just on the design front but also on the shoots with the styling and propping.  Emirates Home sadly says farewell to Saffron Goodyear after two great years of hard work and sales triumphs. We wish her every success in her new role on the Time Out team.  And after holding the fort on our own for two months, we look forward to welcoming our new features editor Monika Grzesik who joins us from Construction Week.

Viva
For the September issue features Ed Katherine burnt the midnight oil this month when she tracked down the 9/11 prisoner and victim's mums who have joined together to fight terrorism. While Senior Features Writer Aoife found out about the dreaded human smuggling trade that is hitting Oman's shores.  New starters Pepita, Celia and Catherine worked their fingers to the bone too. Pepita not only soldiered on alone when indispensable Els took a few well-earned days off, but also braved the traffic for this month's test drive. Newcomer Catherine Langley brought us some fearless reporting - facing a group of opinionated women for a story on irritating in-laws and picture researcher Celia tracked down possibly our best-looking cover ever. VIVA staffers we salute you!

October issue is VIVA's real-life special and our features team tracked down a host of must-read stories. On top of this they've also put together VIVA's first-ever Designer Auction. Tiffany, Mulberry, Louboutins - all up for grabs from Dhs1 on souq.com. Every dirham spent will go to Breast Cancer Foundation of the Emirates. Tell your friends!

Harper's Bazaar
Congratulations to the Harper's Bazaar sales team - Lauren Fryer, Vidhya and Penelope Georgakis who smashed their targets for the September & October issues.  Likewise, the editorial team heralded the start of the Autumn/Winter fashion season with an impressive September issue filled with exclusive interviews and stunning locally-produced photo shoots. The team also welcome new fashion and beauty editor Sarah Joan Ross, who has joined the team from the UK and previously worked as Beauty Director at UK Elle.

October issue features Oscar nominee, Thandie Newton, on the cover and includes a beautiful shoot with celebrated fashion photographer Matthew Shave in London to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Matthew Williamson's label.

Wedding
Warning! No one mention the words 'Big Day' or 'emerald cut diamonds' to Penny McCormick (unless you're on bended knee proposing!). Seriously though, a huge thank you to all on the First Floor who have helped put together the latest issue of Wedding – a real triumph of effort over time!

L'Officiel ME
For the new season, L'Officiel ME is adopting a sleek look! Check out the new layout with the September issue which was implemented in a record time (15 days) thanks to our creative art editor, Dima Elatab, who worked hand in hand with our editorial team to make it happen. September also witnessed a new version of L'Officiel Sharkiah, again with a whole new layout, great features and elegant shoots, addressing the modern and local women in the Arabian Gulf.

October is definitely L'Officiel's month with an international event organised by L'Officiel for the city of Bern, Switzerland, as a closing ceremony for a 5 week event called Arabian Nights. The closing ceremony will witness a fashion show by Kuwaiti designer Adiba El Mahboub, and our team will be covering the event, mainly in the form of a shoot on "the Top Of The world', and mingling with VIPs from Switzerland and the GCC for vibrant event coverage. The October edition also features lebanese designer Adam Zayat introducing the brand new "Prete Couture", and star designer Frank Zambrelli, UAE movie maker Nayla AlKhaja, and a stunning photoshoot featuring Jodie Foster, exclusively for L'Officiel Middle East.

Congratulations to Group Editor, Souha Abbas and her family who had a beautiful baby girl weighing 3.8kgs on Saturday 22nd September.

Welcome and good luck to Projects Director, Sue Taylor, who joins us from EMAP to head up ITPC's brand extensions. Her first two tasks will be to get the L'Officiel Hommes' Most Wanted and Harpers Bazaar's Best Dressed events to fly before the end of the year.

Women's Lifestyle also gained a new Marketing Manager in August; Jolene Nash, who joins us from Marie Claire and In-Style UK.

Time Out Group
Time Out Group had a busy month with Jeremy and Chris Anderson working hard on the soon to be published, Milan Guide.  Well done guys for all your efforts on this last minute project!

This month saw the autumn edition of the Time Out Dubai Kids Guide bagged with the Ramadan issue of Time Out Dubai. As well as increased point of sale in Spinneys and Borders stores throughout the city, flyers and banners were distributed to Magrudys and the Magic Planet at Deira City Centre and Mall of the Emirates branches to promote this special issue. In addition to this activity, a two week radio campaign was also aired on Coast FM.  Well done to Sarah Lucas on this impactful campaign.

Chris Anderson and Scott Walker worked together on a 56-page preview for the Rugby World Cup 2007, currently taking place in France. It has to be the most thorough guide to the event in the city, featuring a complete fixtures list, information and prospects for each team taking part, plus info on the best places to watch around town.

Men's Lifestyle
Congratulations to Robbie & Christine who have worked hard on the new look for Middle East Golfer. The magazine has been completely modernised and initial feedback from the golf trade has been wholly positive - well done to you both!

Charged literally rocked the socks off Gitex Shopper this year with its Guitar Hero Challenge. Hundreds of visitors took part in the competition, which saw wannabe rockers pit their rhythmical wits against each other, strumming wildly to a variety of rock classics.  The elaborately designed stand gained considerable pr coverage including Gulf News, E-Gamers, Channel 4 Radio, City 7 and Sama Dubai TV.

Congratulations to Alex Ritman for his single-handed efforts on Charged September and well done to Stuart Matthewson for generating the biggest revenue issue of the year.

Well done to Toby Haws who again managed to get a shot of himself on the September front cover of Boat Owner ME and welcome to new Ad Manager, Scott Walker who joins us from IPC's Motor Boat Monthly.

Welcome to Thair Soukar, the new Group Editor, Men's Arabic titles, whom brings a wealth of editorial experience.  His initial task is to overhaul L'Officiel Hommes.

  ITP Digital Publishing

A strong way to finish Q3 with revenues crossing the all important psychological barrier of $500,000 in a month for the first time for ITP Digital.

Big congrats to the ArabianBusiness.com team for all of their efforts in September. Editorial broke traffic record after traffic record during the month, peaking at 19,442 visits on 24 Sep and generating 63,397 page views. This took the total page views for the month over the magical million mark. ArabianBusiness.com was visited 351,000 times by 163,000 unique visitors and its crack sales team, Richard O'Sullivan and Elliot Lintott, made that pay with a record $177,225 in revenue.

September also saw the launch of ArabianBusiness.com/Jobs, headed up by Toni Morley-Taylor. The site has been very well received by advertisers and users alike. Billings crossed $10,0 00 this month, but the real news was over 1,000 applications sent via the site last week and more than 200 last Monday.

Well done to all for a truly exceptional performance.

But it has not been all ArabianBusiness.com this month. TimeOutDubai.com faced its highest target of the year during Ramadan - and beat it. The team also found time to launch weekly restaurant and Rugby World Cup newsletters as well. With record targets for the rest of the year, and plans to redevelop the nightlife section and launch film, nightlife and shopping weekly newsletters, it is well placed for a very strong finish to the year.

AhlanLive.com is entering its soft launch stage - the time that we get to learn what works and what doesn't. Tweaks are still be made to the site, but early indications are that the visitors like it. Visitors are viewing more than 8 pages per visit, more than double the page views that we get to our other sites.

Finally it was a tough month for ITP.net from a sales point of view, with GITEX so early in the year and very high targets. It was tough also for the editorial team, with 8 halls to cover in 5 days talking to the great and good from the Middle East ICT industry. Well done to Mark and Michelle - as well as all of the ITP Business editorial team - for a stunning GITEX as well as some great articles and interviews at the show.

Roll on Q4.

  Spectrum Digital Print Solutions

Operations
The Spectrum web2print solution went live in the last week of September, hours of hard work have gone into the configuration and bug testing of the portal, my thanks to Daniel Rodgers for doing such a good job and leading the instillation so competently. Expect to see more product selections being launched on the estimating tool over the next few months and additional enterprise clients joining our anchor customer Xerox for the hosted print solutions we can now manage and provide.

Industry experts around the world are writing that web2print production is the way of the future for print production; we are leading this initiative in the region.

Sales
We welcome Andrew Harker to the Spectrum team, Andrew will be specialising in sales of VDP and Hosted Solutions, the company has some clear commercial advantages in both these markets so we look forward to seeing him capitalise on them.

Digital
Variable Data Printing (VDP)
New clients to start using Spectrum for VDP are as follows : Al Attar Group – Personalised customer communications, Hertz – personalised direct mail, Landmark Group, Splash – Personalised birthday cards, IQPC – Personalised invitations.

Thanks to the sterling efforts of Graeme Selby, VDP is now gathering momentum. Big name clients are reporting very impressive response rates and are now willing to discuss second and third campaigns on the strength of the results. We are getting "copy cat" inquiries which should be a sign of things to come. Well done Graeme.

Fixed Image (FI)
Our retail team together with the sales force continue to build good relationships with those of our clients that have requirements for small quantities of high quality corporate presentations, recent new client gains have been, The First Group, PA Consulting Group - & Jones Lang LaSalle. Often these requirements are met in time scales that are measured in minutes rather than hours or days, very well done to all in operations for keeping all the balls in the air and I thank you!

Print Management
New clients to start using Spectrum's print management service are: London Business School, The MMG group, Ducab and Falcon college.

Print Management is a new part of our business and has lots of potential. Well done to Ladan Rahbary for the clients wins so far and judging by her prospect list we will have a number of important new wins to "write home about" this time next month.
