July 2007
  ITP Business

It took some time for the AC to come back on, but ITP Business stayed cool under pressure and turned in another fantastic performance in June.

The start of the month saw the hospitality team, armed with a 144-page issue of Hotelier Middle East, take the Hotel Show by storm. Buoyed by this strong showing, sales again breezed over target. In fact, it was a full house for the hospitality group, as ATN and Caterer also made their numbers with room to spare.

Construction Week
’s new A4 format and editorial content have met with a fantastic response, and sales eased over the $200K mark in one of its supposedly ‘quieter’ months. After months of persistence and numerous 8.00 am meetings in Caribou Coffee, the Kalzip newsletter finally came together, securing another $25K.

In the Transportation Group, Robeel Haq and his team produced a Materials Handling supplement and Robeel still found time to go on holiday. Air Cargo, Logistics and Sea Freight had a late surge and were all set to go over target.

Though a (wo)man or two down, Neil Baker's team coped with everything that was thrown at them. New boys David Beaver and Daniel Prescott settled in quickly and have already brought their own unique touch to their respective publications. Neil Baker also found some time to start designing ITP’s six exciting second half launches.

Oil & Gas Middle East
was back on target in June, and both it and Utilities closed editorial on time, despite the sudden disappearance of ‘news boy’. Commercial Interior Design’s feature on Commercial Outdoor Design was a creative and commercial success, helping CID nudge over target.

It was all go in the DIC office. The chairs were moved closer to the windows and the IT team made progress on the Gitex Preview, in addition to closing all their monthlies on time. Dozens of young gaming geeks, ably marshaled by Reena Dhamecha, had the time of their lives at the Windows Gaming Championship 2. Excellent team work by Matt Wade and Chris Stevenson ensured the event brought in a cool $172,000. As Gitex approaches, momentum is building towards the ACN Arab Technology Awards, with nominations now flooding in at: www.itp.net/events/arabtechawards

Women’s Weeklies

After recovering from Jet Set (congratulations Davina Perkins on an amazing design job), Ahlan! English continued to see soaring sales and a welcome new addition to their team in the shape of their first boy... Alex Forsyth - who has only been here a month but has already been brainwashed into the George Clooney Fan Club and Paris Hilton Appreciation Society.  Not surprisingly, Alex is looking forward to the arrival of our new stylist Paul Ewart in July, so at least he'll have a partner in crime against the rest of the Ahlanettes!

Ahlan! Masala
also had a huge month with the magazine thanks to the Aishwarya and Abhishek Show, and the second edition of Bandhan, which looks fantastic.

Nadine and her team on Ahlan! Arabic also celebrated this month with the news that the magazine will be going into Saudi Arabia. Congratulations to them and the circulation team on cracking this important market.

From exclusives on Kate Moss's Topshop range to the local woman who spent Dhs2 million on clothes, Grazia's editorial team have proven their winning formula of style and scandal, as evidenced by great growth in newsstand sales. Thanks to Dani in Marketing for a great job on the readers' shopping evening at Debenhams in Mall of the Emirates, and congratulations to Natascha Hawke on her promotion to Picture Editor.

Women’s Lifestyle

Another busy month at VIVA Towers. Safety Surveys, fainting models and readers undergoing 'surgery'.  Were you one of the women caught by VIVA getting into unlicensed taxis, leaving your drinks unmarked and walking home late at night on your own? Yes, Aoife, Jenny, Elliott and Bernard prowled the streets of Dubai at night snapping UAE women for VIVA’s Safety Survey.

For our Great Debate feature we tackled body image and Sarah from Production gave the readers the bodies they thought they wanted. We're just hoping she'll do our holiday snaps too.  Fainting models - willowy model + 45degs = fashion editor running for water and a damp cloth. But who would have known it, the shoot still looked great guys.

Well done to Penny McCormick for heading up this month’s issue of Wedding, as well as editing Emirates Home. Congratulations and thanks also go out to Stuart Robertson who styled this issue’s cover shoot. Thanks again to all the subs that chipped in to help out.

Stuart has also has a busy month on L'Officiel, putting together huge amount of local material with the help of the local photographers. Well done too to the translation team of Rana Saliby and Fatiha Idrissi, who stretched their collective talents across L'Officiel, L'Officiel Hommes and Wedding Arabic.

On a more personal level, welcome back this month to LO’s deputy editor, Mirvat Ghanem who has returned from her maternity leave. She now is the proud mother of her second daughter, Lamar.

Time Out Group

Time Out
’s sales team may have had a rocky month, but the copy sales of TOD continue to go from strength to strength. The latest figures indicate record sales in April. That should help push the audit up later in the year. Well done to the editorial and circulation teams.

After finishing the gigantic Time Out City Guide for London, (with record revenues) the Time Out Guides team has tackled the equally mammoth Russian and Arabic City Guides this month. Well done to all concerned.

Men’s Lifestyle

The men’s titles once again turned up and pretended to do some work. Alex Ritman, read loads of comics and played with toy robots for this month’s superhero issue, Shahzad and Charif went cruising around in town in not one, not two, but three different Rollers. For his part Captain Toby on Boat Owner, interviewed a world champion contender in the moth hydro-foil yachting class for his cover story. Desperate to get as much golf in before summer heat brings the season to an end, Robbie has been rushing around playing and watching a lot of golf.

Christine Burrows busied herself on the re-design of MEG, which should be making its debut in the next couple of months.

Lastly, a big thanks to everybody that contributed to the ITP Golf Day on the 27th June and in particular Sarah Lucas.

  ITP Executive

If June is when things start to slow down, somebody better tell the team at ITP Executive. CEO English managed to smash its target for the second month running, and is suddenly a $100k a month title. A great effort by Andrew Sullivan and Carmen Aston. Meanwhile, much of the sales and editorial team were busy in Riyadh for the Saudi Achievement Awards, where 350 VIPs celebrated 18 awards, in the presence of Saudi royalty. It is already being regarded as one of the most prestigious award ceremonies ever held.

Editorially it was another strong month – exclusive interviews with Etihad boss James Hogan, Tatweer’s CEO and chairman and Mashreq boss Al Ghurair leading the way.

While the titles continue to hit target every month, the team is now focusing on the second half – the launch of 4 new titles, and the arrival of 17 new staff by the start of August. These include 10 editorial, six sales and one on marketing.

  ITP Digital

As H1 draws to a close, it has been another big month for ITP Digital and a strong end to the half.

Top of everyone's agenda this month has been the ITP.net redesign, approximately six years overdue but proving well worth the wait. Led by Craig Willers and Meghna Jalnawalla the new design reflects the excellent strength and depth of ITP's regular IT coverage that makes it the Middle East's number one technology publisher. Since the relaunch ITP.net has experienced traffic levels usually reserved for the monster IT week that is Gitex Dubai. A huge well done to all of those involved.

ArabianBusiness.com this month found itself in the centre of a storm – Gonu – and rose admirably to the task of covering the biggest natural disaster to hit this region in decades. The site became the home of acres of news coverage straddling many angles: hospitality, transportation, and finance. This was an example where all of ITP’s editorial teams got behind the Web and the result was dramatic. ArabianBusiness.com became identified as the source for the latest news on the cyclone and the site registered its highest-ever traffic - crossing 20,000 visits on two consecutive days.

Thank you to all of the various editors, journalists and photographers who contributed to the excellent coverage.

TimeOutDubai.com also showed it colours this month with Kate McAuley leading a quick, but highly effective redesign to the weekly newsletter.

A big thank you also goes to Diana Milne for temporarily stepping outside her role as the Editor of Money Middle East and providing excellent coverage of the Paris air show - exclusively for ArabianBusiness.com.

Commercially, ITP Digital ended the half with a record revenue month, led by TimeOutDubai.com's stellar sales performance. Stuart Morgan brought to a close a superb Q2 and took TimeOutDubai.com over the $100,000 for the first time, its highest monthly revenue to date – by a margin. Recognition must also go to Andrew Wingrove and Michael Smith for their contributions, and in particular to Gareth Jones, who between them contributed more than 50% of the original, shattered target.

June was also the month that ArabianBusiness.com broke the $100,000 barrier. Strong contributions from Jason Bowman, Guillaume Massey and Diarmuid O'Malley meant that they did not miss out on the last month of the guaranteed commission for contributions. Meanwhile over at ITP.net, Colin Saldanha made the short transfer from IT print to join Karl Hougaard as the Web site begins preparations for its biggest, and most challenging months around Gitex Dubai.

  Spectrum Digital Print Solutions

Spectrum welcome two newcomers this month to help strengthen our sales proposition.

George Varghese joins as Business Development Executive to sell Digital Print and Ladan Rahbary joins as Business Development Manger to sell Spectrum’s new Print Management Solution. They will help to enhance Spectrum’s growing reputation in this emerging marketplace and promote our all round digital and print offering.

Digital
Inroads have been made into making major businesses aware of the benefits of personalized customer communications with Showtime Arabia, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Etihad Airways indicating orders for July and others very interested in the benefits of our services. All of these will be using names and addresses from the ITP database. The first large digitally printed mailout of 50,000 pieces for Airmiles is well underway and will hit recipients during July. Other June client wins include Hertz using our Variable Data Printing to target long term rental renewals.

A major personalized Spectrum mailing campaign has been sent to our clients and prospects which will create more interest in our services.

Print Management
On the Print Management side we have just completed a reprint of 12,000 496 page books for Moutamarat and hope to build on this relationship. We have put proposals to two more large businesses and are waiting the outcome.

My thanks to the Spectrum production team for pulling several “rabbits” out of the hat this month most notably 130x 400 pp perfect bound books , files received from London at 4.30 am on a Saturday morning and delivered 11.30 pm the same day to the happy client ….In Abu Dhabi …that’s some doing ! Well done team.

  Production

With a shortage of staff, numerous amounts of extensions and reallocating all of the Ahlan's to a new press we managed to get it all done, special mentions for the following people.

Consumer - Aamar, who without any complaints took on a group of heavy weight titles, Harpers Bazaar, L'Officiel Homme, L'Officiel Femme and Viva single handed. Tyron's patience in getting the Men's Lifestyle group to press. Subramanian & Maher for their dedication in spending many hours overseeing the hand over of all the Ahlan's at their new Web Printer, Atlas.

Customer - Gilbert and Ross especially as it's his first month at ITP, for their extra work in taking on the Wedding Supplements, Emirates Home as well as their own titles.

Executive - James also had a good first month at ITP, under the guidance of Ali we can only expect more to come.

Business - With 3 people away on holiday our star Ellie took on the responsibility of keeping 15 magazines in her care until handing them over for printing. Congrats to Matt for passing his drivers test in the UAE!

July 2007

  ITP Business

The new, super-cool mezzanine floor was a hive of activity in working month July as both sales and editorial excelled.

Diarmuid O’Malley and his Hospitality Group had cause to celebrate last week when Hotelier Middle East crossed $1,000,000 in approved orders for the year. With almost half of 2007 still remaining, Diarmuid is still dreaming of reaching the $2,000,000 mark.

In the Construction Group, CW again breezed over target and Raz Islam did a spectacular holding job on MEP, helping the magazine to hit its numbers. Following his success over the last few months, Raz has been promoted to sales manager of Construction Week. In the FM corner, Becca Wilson and Shishir Desai lit up the market with a fire safety focus that took the magazine past the $30,000 mark.

The editorial team managed to secure some major coups in July. Rob Morris persuaded a very busy Sheikh Ahmed, CEO of Emirates, to grant an exclusive interview to Aviation Business. Stuart Matthews jetted off to Vienna to discuss enhanced oil recovery techniques, reservoir maintenance and the future of renewable energy with the secretary general of OPEC.

It was certainly a busy month for Sevag Davidian and his photography team. When Media Mogul packed up temporarily, they had to dig deep into their portable hard drives to locate lost images. Thanks to Sevag and his colleagues, Neil Baker’s design team was able to ensure that the monthlies didn’t slip too far from their intended close dates.

This year’s early GITEX means that there has been little rest for the IT Group over the Summer months. On top of their respective monthlies, Matt Wade and the team sent no fewer than three separate GITEX previews to press early in the month. Josephine D’Sa and Fareed Dubery rallied the sales troops to take the GITEX Times and GulfComms previews to their respective sales targets. Chris Stevenson, Andrew Seymour and Dawinderpal Sahota linked up superbly to take Channel ME over target, and Windows English hit its numbers thanks to the combined efforts of Rio Altaie, Sandip Virk, Cleona Godinho and Jason Saundalkar.

Down in the DIC office, those empty seats are starting to fill up rapidly as Bala Menon’s Business Information Systems Group begins to build up momentum. Work is underway on the group’s first business directory and the orders are already beginning to flood in.

Women’s Lifestyle

Viva
Where was your guy on the Thursday 5th July? Was he chatting to a Viva journalist with clipboard in hand? Then he could be starring in Viva's first ever Men Survey. Aoife, Jenny and Kate swapped their Thursday night out to find 100 male volunteers. The guys discussed exes, relationships and body worries - their's not ours. If you want to see the results snap up the next issue of Viva.

However, if we ever have the strength to do it again we have three more volunteers to help share the load. Pepita, Celia and Catherine have joined the team. Nice to have you here girls!

Last but not least, congratulations to Shital Salvi for hitting target.

Harpers BAZAAR
The Bazaar team was kept busy during June creating the Dita von Teese-fronted July issue, including exclusive interviews with Alexander McQueen and Anya Hindmarsh, a stunning photo shoot of couture-clad supermodel Giselle by Karl Lagerfeld, and countless beautifully-designed pages of the best local fashion and beauty buys. July's issue was the first to feature the clever still life shoot handiwork of shopping editor Sarah Maisey, ably assisted by Sally Matthews. During the month, Bazaar Dubai also produced a striking fashion photo shoot with supermodel and heiress Lydia Hearst, which will appear in the September issue, and has already been picked up by several overseas sister editions for their October editions.

A particular thanks to senior sub editor Gemma Champ, and picture researcher Louisa Kirby, who both worked even more overtime to help with the Wedding supplement. The team also bid a sad farewell this month to deputy editor Alexandra Shakespeare, who is returning to the UK after 3 years, 2 successful magazine launches and countless late nights at ITP. We wish Alex every future success!

Emirates Home
Congratulations must go to Saffron Goodyear who holds a so far unbeatable record in ITP: two complete years of reaching sales target. This is a great achievement which has no doubt contributed to the success of the magazine on the market. It's been flying off the shelves over recent months and we recommend you check out the latest polo themed issue.

Thanks must also go to Emily McCarrick who has also been integral to the development of the magazine. We say goodbye to her this month and wish her luck in her new celeb-filled role!

L’Officiel & L’Officiel Hommes
Black is back with a very futuristic local cover shoot in L’Officiel for the August edition which was also filmed by the crew of BBC world-2 (to be broadcasted in September), with a peek at the latest collections for the fall and winter season both in ready to wear and accessories.

L’Officiel Hommes on the other hand, takes the lead in the in-house production category, with a flamboyant “Asian” theme featured through stunning fashion and accessories shoots, along with fascinating exclusive interviews with international designers Sergio Loro Piana, Narcisso Rodriguez, and the local R&B band “Abri”.

Men’s Lifestyle

Middle East Golfer

Christine and Robbie have been sobbing into their cups of coffee this month during work on a redesign for Middle East Golfer. But after producing a magazine of breathtaking quality and unique vision, I think we can all agree that it was worth the effort.

Car
Welcome aboard, Tom Bird. He joins CAR ME as Assistant Editor from British TV station, Channel 4's 4car motoring website, where he was Road Test Editor. Tom arrived fresh from the international launch of the new BMW M3, well ahead of any other Middle East motoring journalist, which is a hell of way to start a new job!

Charged

Charged will be rocking GITEX this year, having planned a live Guitar Hero Challenge at the show, with a PS3 up for grabs.

Boat Owner Middle East
Gulf Craft's Majesty 88 is off to Cyprus, so we got on board for an exclusive look. While over in the UK, the eye-catching wavepiercer MarySlim is catching the headlines. If its good enough for them, its good enough for Boat Owner. A trip down to Abu Dhabi revealed the Pacer 27 sportsboat, while large yacht sailing is considered in an interview with the owner of the largest single masted sailing yacht in the world, Joe Vittoria.

  ITP Executive

While July is traditionally a quiet month, the ITP Executive team have been stepping up the action. It goes without saying that Arabian Business English and Arabic always hit their targets - that stable is now joined by CEO Middle East, which under Andrew Sullivan's sales drive is suddenly a US$100k a month publication. Well done to him, Carmen Aston and Editor Ed Poultney for their amazing work. With other titles such as Arabian Property and Money building up, ITP Exec begins the second half in a very strong position.

Editorially, apart from the usual exclusive interviews, the Arabian Business editorial team scooped the rest of the media world by becoming the only journalists and photographers allowed to visit the top of the Burj Dubai - resulting in a spectacular 20 page special. The team is now gearing up for 3 big launches on September 1st - Arabian Property and CEO are going Arabic, and the new executive travel magazine launching.

  ITP Lifestyle

New Deputy Managing Director of ITP Lifestyle Publishing, Ali Akawi, made sure the launch of ITP Lifestyle kicked off in spectacular style with Ahlan Arabic launching in Saudi Arabia, Ahlan Masala going way above its sales target, Ahlan English taking over Dubai's television and the Grazia team surviving the disappearance of their editor on holiday during the fashion frenzy of Dubai Summer Surprises (so blame them if you're broke!).

New arrivals at ITP Lifestyle include Lauren Odwell as Advertising Manager on Grazia, Mohammed Tarraf as Deputy Ad Manager on Ahlan Arabic and Ahlan! English got another boy on the team, their new stylist, Paul Ewart.

  ITP Customer Publishing

July saw ITP Customer Publishing welcoming Tamer Mohammed, Giovanni Angiolini, Rolan Huisamen and Zeina Eid to the team.

Tamer hit the ground running, working closely with newly appointed editor Zoe Naylor in overseeing and implementing an overhaul of Visitor magazine.

Congratulations on a great job all round, giving Giovanni an excellent product to take to market.

Zeina joined Etihad as the Arabic Assistant Editor, joining the classy editorial team of Hala, Katherine and Jessica, demonstrating her talent and very quickly adapting to the role as yet again Mr. Van de Merwe exceeded target on an excellent all round August issue of Etihad Inflight.

Rolan Huisamen came onboard as the Catalogues Sales Manager and quickly got stuck into several major shows scheduled for later in the second half, with excellent and encouraging results so far.

Emma Milner steps up to the mark as the GITEX word begins its annual reverberation through the corridors of Garhoud, whilst our colleagues in ITP Business have once again delivered, and continue to deliver, substantially and impressively on the revenue side of the largest catalogue in the stable.

Tracey Markham's nose had a grindstone finish this month as several impressive pitches were completed, alongside her usual sterling work, ably assisted by Fadi Al Shami, who ensured the Arabic side of the design department ticked along smoothly too.

  ITP Digital

ITP Digital looks set to beat the heat with traffic on ITP.net and TimeOutDubai.com on course to beat June, and with ArabianBusiness.com looking game and set to match it.

Stars this month were Andrew Seymour, the Editor of Channel Middle East, who broke several cracking news stories for ITP.net, and Daniel Stanton, the Editor of Arabian Banking and Finance, who helped ArabianBusiness.com be first with news of the EBI and NBD merger.

Praise must also go to Safura Rahimi for stepping up to the plate and managing ArabianBusiness.com on her own as the holiday season hit. She did so with some style, with traffic for ArabianBusiness.com going up during her week at the helm.

The biggest traffic driver for the month however was ArabianBusiness.com's coverage of the Burj Dubai.

Dylan Bowman had prepared numerous features and picture stories several weeks prior to the announcement of the world's tallest building. As a result ArabianBusiness.com was not only prepared for Burj Dubai's big day, but had more news and views on the 512m building than any other Middle East resource.

Commercially, ITP Digital's July all-stars were Colin Saldanha and Karl Hougaard on course to beat target for ITP.net. Special thanks go to Richard Judd for his 12K contribution to the technology portal's total.

This month ITP Digital also welcomed Toni Morley-Taylor who will guide the commercial development for ArabianBusiness.com/jobs. Only into her second week in the role Toni has begun winning over the agencies - with a second commitment to the site in as many weeks.

Finally a fascinating fact: The only place hotter than Dubai's midday sun is the meeting point of our creative, upload and development teams. What are Craig Willers, Asad Azizi and Mohammed Affan working on...? Find out next month...

  Spectrum Digital Print Solutions

Operations

We welcome a new member to our team Todd Arriola, who joins us initially to strengthen our Creative Services capability and in time will become an additional Press Operator and Prepress specialist . It has become noticeable that new clients are now often won by presenting them with finished VDP visuals customized to their application .Todd’s role is to make sure the designs are as effective as they can be thus ensuring results which will see the client’s signing up for an annual contract.

We have had the first major order which involved using data from ITP for the personalization , we expect this to become a more regular request.

During the course of July we are installing and configuring the latest version of The Digital Storefront from EFI. We are one of the first companies in the world to deploy this and certainly the only one in the Middle East. This latest version will enable us to switch entirely to a "web to print" basis which will streamline our operations and create an enhanced customer experience with a broader reach.

Our bindery department has been working non stop to full fill our first Major Sale to Airmiles, the mailing consists of a very complicated hand finishing operation which we believe is a first for the region, thank you to the team for all the extra hours to get this job completed in time.

Sales

Digital
Several large Digital Print clients were won during July to send out personalized mail for their direct marketing campaigns. Orders were confirmed from Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Showtime Arabia, Etihad Airways, Hyder Consulting and EIS Asset Management. We expect a significant order from London Business School this week (well done to George Varghese for winning LBS in his first month at Spectrum).

The marketplace is becoming increasingly aware of Spectrum and Digital Printing and we are currently talking to several more companies about their customer communications.

Print Management
We were successful in winning a major order from Chase Response Agency for Enrolment Brochures and are waiting for decisions on several more projects.

We have some very good meetings set up over the coming weeks with blue chip companies.

A final house keeping note , DIFC have now altered their policy on parking at DIFC , all day free parking is now a thing of the past and is restricted to one hour free and a second hour can be validated against a receipt for 20 Dhs or more.

November 2007
  ITP Business Publishing

There was no rest for ITP Business in October as a new launch and a number of massive trade shows coming up in November meant it was another busy month.

The Aviation Business team excelled, putting together its largest issue of the year for this month’s Dubai Airshow. The editorial team produced 100+ pages packed full of CEO interviews, design helped give the magazine a brand new look and the sales team took the magazine over its biggest sales target of the year.

The Construction Week team had its hands full as it began to prepare for the BIG 5 exhibition at the end of November. In addition to the weekly issues of CW, the team squeezed in a BIG 5 show preview and a developer supplement. Preparation for the five BIG 5 show dailies is also well underway.

The Architect, CID, FM and MEP teams were equally busy, putting out bumper BIG 5 issues and again taking the titles over their sales targets. The production team remained as cool as ever, dealing effortlessly with last minute page increases and lots of flatplan reshuffles.

Elsewhere in ITP Business, Medical Times reached its October working month target, Utilities Middle East and Arabian Banking & Finance both hit their numbers for the third month in a row and the hospitality titles again beat their targets easily. October also saw a new addition to the hospitality group in the shape of Leisure Manager, whose first issue matched the same high standards of ITP Business’s other recent launches.

Retail News
nudged over target for the second month in a row and both editions of Windows continued their recent rallies. In the DIC office, the Business Information Systems Group continues to build up momentum. Revenue is flooding into the group’s first business directory ahead of its late December launch.

The marketing and events teams were busy preparing for the Hotelier, CID and CW awards, which will all take place over the next month. All will doubtless be up to the same high standard established by this year’s previous awards evenings. Whilst all that was going on, work continued on November’s CW Conference and what is shaping up to be an excellent speaker schedule.

Women’s Lifestyle

Only plague and pestilence was missing from the VIVA office this month. We would add fire but on top of everything else we smelt burning in the IT cupboard next to our desks. However, the depleted team through sheer willpower and cheap garage biscuits still managed to get a bumper issue and a supplement out of the door. Katherine, Elliott, Chee, Celia, Jenny, Pepita and Shital. You are stars, you really are.

Though we couldn’t have done it on our own. Which is why we’d like to say a HUGE thank you for the Harpers team for pitching in and coming to our rescue while they were putting their own mag to bed.

Between trips to the various fashion weeks around the world during September and October, the Harper's Bazaar team still managed to put together another beautiful issue, featuring Kate Hudson on the cover and themed with a 'Body and Beauty' focus. Our styling team of Sarah Maisy and Sally Matthews were busy in London after fashion week organising the stunning Dominatrix fashion shoot featured this issue.

Huge congratulations to Gemma Champ who was announced our new Lifestyle Editor, while retaining her senior sub editor title (what a multitasking champion!) and to Imen Ben Ayed who has been promoted to designer. A warm welcome to intern Mariam Amro, who has fast become an invaluable member of the editorial team (not to mention our in-house model!)

On the advertising side, huge applause for the sales team, Lauren Fryer and Vidhya, who smashed their sales target once again for the November issue. Welcome to Sandra Z who joins as the deputy sales manager from L'Officiel, where "Fur" is the word for our November edition. This month has a detailed preview and a fashion shoot featuring some of the latest creations for a warm winter. As promised last month, we take our readers all the way to Berne, where L'officiel Middle East was the official magazine and the organizer of a major event under the patronage of HH Sheikh Saoud Bin Sakr AlQassemi, ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and the city of Berne. As usual, we took the coverage much further than mere society pages, to offer our readers an amazing fashion shoot on "the top of the world" with breathtaking images. So thumbs up  for our editorial team, as well as our sales team who managed to meet a challengingly high target this month."

Men’s Lifestyle

November sees the biggest issue of CAR Middle East produced to date with 144 pages in the main issue along with a 56 page supplement providing the ultimate guide to the Dubai Motor Show. This meant it closed with the largest revenue earning since its launch! While they were at it, they've redesigned the magazine, to give it great new look and real contemporary feel. A great effort from the CAR team!

They weren’t the only men’s title to have a great month as Middle East Golfer also closed over target, and achieved the largest revenue in  MEG history, well done Stuart M.

This month Charged unearthed a secret location (the alleyway by the side of the Party Store) for its sophisticated and extremely intellectual 'Girls and Tools' cover shoot. Sadly the team soon had to fend off the interest of passing strangers, who were either captivated by the wide array of expensive power tools on display, or more interested in the female bikini-clad DIY expert/model holding them.

With the weather cooling off, Boat Owner has been leaping back on the water again by speeding around in high-powered RIBs, performing a world-exclusive test on a Jebel Ali-built motor cruiser and seeing if the Italian modern design really works in a modern powerboat. The November issue also introduces the inaugural Arabian Gulf Yachting Awards, to be held on the 10th November, and recognising all the effort marine companies have put in over the past 12 months.

Oh, and Boat Owner is also looking for a new editor to step in from the end of November.

  Time Out Group

Another busy month for the Time Out team has seen Time Out Dubai and Abu Dhabi both burst back into life as the cities wake up after the summer slumber and a number of key guides completed. It has been a month of big interviews for the magazines, Becky Lucas took on the biggest ego in hip hop, Kanye West and won and Matthew Pomroy who after signing the interview equivalent of a pre-nup managed to (almost) interview Justin Timberlake.

There have been some key promotions on both magazines. Congratulations to Time Abu Dhabi’s new Editor, Matthew Pomroy and features writer Scott Walker. Changes on the TOD team as well, well done to Jeremy Lawrence (who is now the Deputy Editor), Andy Buchan (the new Features Editor) and Becky Lucas (who takes on Nightlife). Mark Smith also joins the weekly team as Books and Music Editor. More changes are afoot so watch this space.

On the guides team, congratulations to Dana El Baltaji, Kaye Holland and David Donaghy for a great new edition of the Muscat visitor’s guide and to Ananda Shakespeare for spearheading the new edition of the Shopping Guide. Finally, October also saw the first copies of the Time Out City Guide enter the building. This year’s book is a vast improvement on the previous editions and early word is that it is outselling other guides to the region. Congratulations to the entire team.

  ITP Lifestyle Publishing

It's been a busy month for the Lifestyle team...

Ahlan! English
Not only did The Hot 100 Things To Do fly off the shelves this month, Lucy Wildman and Gemma White revamped the Glamour section and introduced a fantastic new fashion and beauty section, Star Style, that has more celeb style secrets than Rachel Zoe!

Many thanks to Group Art Editor, Cate Warde for yet another inspired Ahlan! makeover!

Ahlan! Masala
Happy Birthday to all the team, who celebrated the 200th issue of their hit magazine and gave away more than Dhs160,000 worth of gifts for their readers! Now that's a party we'd like to be invited to!

Ahlan! Arabic
Ahlan! Arabic launched Style Arabia - the region's first fashion and beauty guide and event for our most fashionable and trendsetting local readers. Full of celebs and fashion and exclusive interviews with Ellie Saab, Walid Atallah and Haifa Wehbe, it's the Arabic style bible for this season.

Many thanks to Mirei, Dani, Sawsan and Mohammad for creating such a ground-breaking event!

Grazia
Aside from smashing October's sales target, Grazia had possibly the craziest month of its history, as the editorial team was whittled down to a core of four people for three weeks. That the 32-page guide to Wafi shopping mall was produced during this period is thanks to the exceptional hard work of the whole team, and especially Helen Carter, Elaine Greenshields and Anna Whitehouse. Thanks also to Autumn Mooney for her invaluable support carrying Grazia's picture desk during this time, and Gemma Champ and Jenny King for helping us cope without a sub. Even Donatella Versace pitched in, writing a column for the Wafi guide - cheers Donatella!

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Katie Heskett who has been promoted to Group Editor for the Ahlan Group, overseeing Ahlan! English, Ahlan! Masala, Ahlan! Arabic, Hot 100 and Jet Set.

Congratulations to Louise Pyne who has been promoted to Health and Beauty Writer, and many thanks to Colwyn Kidger for all her tireless work on the Hot 100 and Jet Set.

Congratulations to Nicola and Lauren on the Grazia sales team for hitting their target yet again!

  ITP Digital Publishing

This month ITP Digital salutes ITP.net, which has won the prestigious "IT Portal Outstanding Achievement Award", an association created to recognize excellence in the IT Industry. This is an achievement that not only belongs to Editor Mark Sutton and journalist Michele Howe who have guided the Web site, but also to its contributors from ITP Business - Mathew Southwell, Elliot Beer, Andrew Seymour - amongst many others. A huge congratulations to you all.

TimeOutDubai.com also edged past another milestone, moving up 70,000 places on the Alexa ranking for Web sites, and making it within the top 100,000 sites in the world. With millions of sites around the world vying for attention that is a real achievement - but is only the start. As we speak the second nightlife newsletter is being prepared, just ahead of the maiden flight of the first TimeOutDubai Film email which will make its debut in November.

ArabianBusiness.com meanwhile just keeps on growing. The English-language site has now cruised past one million page impressions a month, while a new editor has taken the helm of ArabianBusiness.com/Arabic. Ahmed Shahem Shareef succeeded in doubling the site's readership in his first week as Editor - not a bad start. We're just waiting to see what he can achieve by the end of the year.

Meanwhile ITP Digital's sales teams look set for yet another impressive month. Richard O'Sullivan and Elliot Lintott look set to guide ArabianBusiness.com over the $200,000 mark for the first time in its history, while Colin Saldanha has stepped up to the plate with confidence after Karl Hougaard's departure. Last but not least all star Stuart Morgan looks set to hit eight sales targets out of eight for TimeOutDubai.com.

Perhaps the most exciting news story to come out of ITP Digital this month was with TimeOutTickets.com which secured exclusive rights for the Justin Timberlake concert to be held in Abu Dhabi next month. Including sales of Rugby 7s tickets, ITP Digital has sold 17,795 tickets in October, with a value of over Dhs 5 million. Well done to Hitesh and Arvind.

Finally a sneak preview of what's to come. Next month should see two new additions to the ITP family with AhlanMasala.com and ArabianBusiness.com/Property coming online. It's been an exciting year for ITP Digital so far, but it seems the best has really yet to come.

  ITP Executive Publishing

A strong month for ITP Executive, with Arabian Business English crossing $300k for the first time ever - and has already hit November target. CEO Middle East crossed the $100k marked, helped by the huge success of the first ever CEO Middle East Awards. Revenues across just eight titles topped $1 million in October. Well done to all the sales and editorial teams.

Several new projects, launches and events are due to be announced shortly.

New arrivals: Fadi Tayyoun (business development director); Walid Zok (commercial director); Lisa Hodge (editor, First Class)

Promotions: Anil Bhoyrul (editorial director); Diana Milne (group editor); James Bennett (group editor)

  ITP Customer Publishing

ITP Customer Publishing closed down the 3rd quarter with a couple of new records - the Gitex Catalogue hit its highest ever revenue, ably managed by Josephine D'sa and some key performers from ITP Business. The catalogue, the flagship show catalogue in ITP Customer's portfolio, also exceeded the previous high standards of last year and was warmly received by all, so hats off to Catalogues Editor Emma Milner who ably and capably managed the gargantuan task, with Hala El Khoury performing similar feats with her Arabic team. Special mentions in dispatches to Matt Wade and David Wesley.

Etihad hit its highest ever revenue on its September issue, the title going from strength to strength under Stephan van der Merwe and the talented editorship of Kathryn Clark, Hala El Khoury, Jessica Gliddon and Zeina Eid, with help from Fatima El Homsi. Etihad Inflight also welcomes Jan Stoop as its new designer. Jan has already settled in well and has shown himself to be a safe and dependable pair of hands. The Etihad team also welcomes Nora Elias , who will be working on the Entertainment Guides alongside her core role as the English language editor of the newly acquired Rotana Hotels magazine. Nora is busy planning the first issue of the magazine, due out in January.

ITP's catalogue division welcomes Rolan Huisamen as its Sales Manager. Rolan started with the bit between his teeth and hasn't looked back, with both Motor Show products sailing over target.

Visitor magazine has turned a corner, due to a great re-design, a new and increased audit and some excellent USPs, including display at out-bound airport terminals in the UK. Visitor magazine approaches 2008 looking fresh and full of potential.

Congratulations to Zoe Moleshead and Tracey Markham on their recent engagements

  Spectrum Digital Print Solutions

Retail
October saw the start of the season as financial organizations at DIFC seemed to spring back into life after a some what extended summer lull and most of our core clients were back with last minute urgent print requirements all of which were handled brilliantly by the Spectrum production team, my thanks to everyone for keeping up with all the customers demands.

External sales
New wins for this month for VDP are Toshiba and Talent brokers, Personalised Direct Mail and Invitations respectively .Results coming back to us from early adopt clients  show a strong financial case for VDP and repeat business should undoubtedly follow together with copy cat initiatives.
