December 2007
  ITP Business Publishing

November was yet another massive month for the ITP Business team.

It kicked off with the Hotelier Middle East Awards, which continue to be the company's most raucous awards as hoteliers from around the region celebrated the industry's unsung heroes. Well done to everyone involved in yet another stunning evening.

The goodwill generated by the Hotelier Awards helped the sales team push past their target, while the editorial team ensured the winners were given the coverage they well deserved. Not to be outdone, the rest of the Hospitality Group chipped in with Arabian Travel News and Caterer beating target.

Also on form in the O'Malley stable were the Broadcast & Communications Group, which delivered three out of three targets, and the Transport & Supply Chain Group.

In particular, the Aviation Business team not only blitzed the Dubai Air Show with its bumper issue but also held their first awards ceremony – a gala event well received by guests and winners alike. Well done to Rob, Naz and Mitch.

Elsewhere in the Transport & Supply Chain Group, new sales executive Tibor Fuchsel steered Logistics Middle East to its largest monthly sales performance to date, while Jenny chipped in with a solid performance on Air Cargo. As ever, Robeel Haq and his team delivered top-notch editorial products.

If the Hospitality, Broadcast & Communications, and Transport Groups thought they were busy during November, they should have spared a thought for their friends over in the Construction and Design divisions.

With two huge trade shows, numerous awards evenings, daily papers, a new launch, events and bumper issues, the Construction and Design Groups were on top form.

It started with yet another awards evening, as the inaugural Commercial Interior Design Awards were well received thanks to the efforts of Michelle, Charlotte and the ever-impressive marketing team of Dan, Noura and Masood.

The Design team then found time to welcome onboard Michelle Howe and Gemma Zinyama, who put together and sold the first issue of Commercial Outdoor Design, which already looks like a winner.

On the harder side of the Construction Group, Michael Stansfield and his team delivered over a million dollars in the month, with star performances coming from the Construction Week team as they not only surpassed target on the magazine but also hit on the Big 5 Dailies, the CW Awards, and the CW Conference.

Once the money was in, the Big 5 Dailies went smoothly under the watchful eye of Angela Giuffrida, who also found time to open the first Construction Week Conference.

Organised by Reema and Kimon, the two-day affair saw over 100 top class delegates from the construction sector listen to a wide range of impressive speakers.

The conference was crowned with the Construction Week Awards, which saw over 400 industry professionals come together to celebrate outstanding achievement in the sector.

Well done to the entire Construction and Design Groups – it was a truly impressive November.

While not quite as busy, the Energy, Finance and IT Groups went about their business as usual. NME kicked off its new data centre section with a standalone supplement, while the Channel titles delivered on their targets. Elsewhere there were strong performances from the ABF, Oil & Gas and Utilities sales and editorial teams.

With only a few weeks to go before the market disappears for Eid and the Festive Season, it's full steam ahead for the ITP Business team. While many try and catch their breath after a busy November, others are putting the final touches to longstanding projects.

In particular, the MEP Middle East team are looking forward to their first awards, and the Business Information Systems Group is finalising its first offering – the print, CD and online versions of the Construction Week Building, Construction & Contractors Directory.

Best of luck to them and their colleagues as they look to finish the year on a high.

Women's Lifestyle
Warning! Only pick up the latest issue of VIVA if you're been working out. At a corking 244 pages, plus 60 page Luxe List supplement, this baby is going to be causing havoc for DHL guys everywhere. Another sterling effort by the VIVA team - carrying sofas, battling the crowds for vox pops and hassling DJs. You're stars, you really are!

Happy Anniversary to Harper's Bazaar! It celebrates 140 years as the most stylish fashion magazine in world. In honour, the Dubai edition has been supersized. It's a massive 264 pages and includes a special celebratory section, a holiday shopping guide and party survival secrets while the delectable Jennifer Aniston graces the cover.

The team has also grown - we would like to offer a big welcome to Kate Hazell who we stole from VIVA (Sorry Chee) to be our Fashion & Beauty Writer and from the UK, Rebecca Matthews as the new Picture Editor.

On a sad note we would like to say goodbye to our seriously stylish Art Director, Sage Bronk. After three brilliant years transforming every glossy magazine at ITP and doing an inspired job of shaping the Bazaar title she goes off into the wonderful world of freelance. Good Luck Sage – We will miss you!

December is very festive when it comes to L'Officiel. It is the end of the year, and the Eid Al Adha holiday, which means that you really need to shine like a star. This is exactly what our creative team is offering our readers through a very special accessories supplement coming out with the main magazine. It is also a month of celebration, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary with Sharjah's ladies club, having represented ITP Group to receive an honorary prize from HH Sheikhah Jawaher for that occasion. We also take you to Oman to celebrate the first jubilee for Amouage, the famous Omani perfume, before hopping on a plane to go to Bern where L'Officiel was the organizer of the closing ceremony for the Arabian Nights, an event that gathered 600 VIP guests from both the UAE and Switzerland. As usual, we go very creative on such occasions, so we left it to Stuart Robertson and Candy Kennedy to take us to "The Top Of the World" for a stunning fashion shoot, and very interesting "Behind the scene" shots to take you to the heart of the event! From her end, Mirvat Ghanem was busy interviewing celebrity designers, such as the Lebanese Abed Mahfouz, and Arlette Elsa Emch of Leon Hatot, as well as Moroccan photographer Hassan Hajjaj.

Farewell to our Arabic Supplements Art Editor, Mohammad Khalil, who will be leaving the company end of December to pursue other career objectives. We wish him all the luck.

How can you resist picking up a copy of this month's EH? With supermodel 'Issy' making a return to the cover, our biggest ever 'Celebration' issue will look good on any coffee table. We've been shopping sleuths this month sourcing ideas for decorations and also hunting down the hottest home in the Emirates. We challenge you not to be green with envy when you see the winner of our Home of the Year competition.

We also officially welcome on board our new Ad team, of Natasha Pendleton and Aidan O'Sullivan. With our fifth birthday looming in 2008, they've got some great ideas to help us celebrate this special year.

BTW If you want to be a part of EH's 'Secret Santa'  let us know. This will run from 16th-20th December.

Congratulations to Penny McCormick who has been made Senior Editor.

Men's Lifestyle
I would like to  congratulate Men's Life style division Stuart Matthewson on hitting target with Middle East Golfer for the third month in a row plus Robbie the editor on putting together a great product - I would also like to congratulate Scott on Boat Owner Middle East for hitting target and good work on the Boat Awards Middle East an excellent event - Also Good work on Car Middle East for hitting target plus the biggest issue ever and a great awards event !!

Thank you to all the Editorial and production and Design. What a great team !!

It's been a busy month for the car team. They staged their first annual awards at the Creek Golf Club, with patron Mohammed Bin Sulayem, and special guest Mika Hakkinen along with 230 of the motor industry's most senior people. Then it was straight into the motor show, where the fantastic CAR stand pulled in a staggering 2500 subscriptions. And after all that, there was still a magazine to produce. CAR was the first to get its hands on the world's fastest car right here in Dubai, exclusively before it went to the motor show, and we shot 12 cars in two days for our awards shoot including a Ferrari 599, Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe, Bentley Arnage T and an Aston Martin, in our highest revenue edition of the year.

Production
An extra shout to Tyron Webster for his work on the Car Awards newsletter which was distributed at the Car Show.

  Time Out Group

It's been another busy month for the Time Out team, with no less than four products produced alongside the weekly and monthly magazines. Time Out Kids proved to be another success, as did the latest editions of Time Out Bahrain, the return of the Nightlife map and a much-improved Time Out Dubai Shopping Guide. Well done to everyone involved particularly Chris Anderson, Ananda Shakespeare, Dana El-Baltaji, Kaye Holland and David Donaghy.

Not ones to be outdone by the Guides teams, both Time Out Abu Dhabi and Dubai have produced some great pieces. Time Out Abu Dhabi got festive with your complete guide to Christmas in the capital, while the Time Out Dubai team did everything from tackling the rent situation to guiding people through the Rugby 7s, via chats with Frankie Dettori, Carl Cox and Daft Punk.

Not to be outdone by these editorial endeavors, the sales team had a record-breaking month. Well done guys – 2008 should be an extremely busy year.

Finally, the Time Out team would like to say goodbye to Marcus Webb. Almost six years after joining ITP as a junior writer on Digital Studio (ah, those heady days) he's departing to spend three months writing a book in South America. Good luck Marcus and best wishes for the future from everyone at ITP.

Ahlan! English
Continuing to dominate the international celeb scene, Ahlan! scooped exclusives on the most delicious Hollywood hunks, including Brad's Dubai purchase, Hugh Grant's trip to Barasti and new Art Editor, Karl Ibrahim's arrival at the ITP offices! The team also jetted off in style with the latest (and most glamorous!) Jet Set magazine - many thanks to Maisa, Paul and Katy for a fabulous looking job - and got heated (and a little violent!) over who really is 2007's hottest celebrity... you'll have to wait for our special January issue to find out as we are sworn to secrecy until then!

Ahlan! Masala
The team got everyone's mouths watering this month by working on their special food and beverage supplement - if you want to find the best Indian restaurants in town, check out this week's issue! They also officially welcomed Alpana Depala to the Bandhan team and got our pulses racing with their Bollywood Hot Bodies special!

Ahlan! Arabic
The launch of Style Arabia showed just how glamorous and fashionable the Ahlan! Arabic team are both on and off the magazine as the A-list international designers fought over our special Autumn/Winter catwalk guide which launched in spectacular style at the Style Arabia event at the Grand Hyatt. Many thanks to Anna for her incredible design on Style Arabia and the magazine.

Grazia
November marked Grazia's 100th issue, which saw a bumper issue packed with 100 celebrity buys - straight from the shop-floors of the UAE - and the style secrets of the 10 best-dressed women in Dubai - especial congratulations to Elaine Greenshields for a superb effort shooting both. (Negotiating 10 lots of Louboutins, entourages, egos and the odd Hummer to a studio in Al Quoz is no mean feat).

Also this month, Grazia's international owner, Mondadori, celebrated its centenary. In honour of the event, Louise joined the editors of the 11 international editions of Grazia for a conference in Italy, and even made an appearance on the country's leading news channel!

Lifestyle Team
Grazia bids a sad farewell to staff writer Anna Whitehouse, who has hung up her Manolos to become Mind & Body editor on Time Out. (Not to worry Anna, Birkenstocks will make a comeback soon!) Seriously, Anna was an integral part of the team and will be sorely missed. We look forward to her replacement joining in January.

Still recovering from the sad news of Senior Ad Manager Barney York's departure to pastures new, the Ahlan! girls quickly found solace in the arrival of our new Ad Manager, Mario Gennaro... ladies, he's ours!

Having been a dedicated member of the Marketing and Ahlan! team for nearly three years, Danielle Wilson will also be leaving at the end of December to pursue other exciting opportunities... we wish her all the best and hope it wasn't the thought of another Hot 100 that sent her packing!

Lifestyle Sales
November has been another strong month for the ITP Lifestyle sales team, who once again hit their group target. This is has been achieved through a strong sales performance from all the teams. Masala continues to lead the way by smashing target for the ninth time this year! The Grazia revolution continues with the 100th issue helping the sales team to maintain their fantastic growth. Ahlan Arabic and Ahlan English also had huge months, hitting the largest targets in the history of the magazine, so well done to all.

Lifestyle Production
Matthew Grant and Rouba Attieh also put in a master effort while covering duties in the Lifestyle Division.

  ITP Digital Publishing

This was a month when breaking news was the news of ITP Digital.

AhlanLive.com was the first Web site to publish news of Brangelina buying an island in The World development. Within a nanosecond the story had been picked up by the wires, and next day published in newspapers around the world.

Not to be outdone ArabianBusiness.com was first with the news on Emaar's plans to list in London, and the dirham's revaluation of the dollar. Quoting "a source close to the central bank", Anil Boyrul's article sent the UAE currency to a 17-year high and the Saudi riyal to a 21-year high - in the first hour after publication. It even caused the US Treasury market to track the ArabianBusiness.com story.

All ITP Digital's Web sites have continued strong traffic growth this month on the back of stories coming from the print and online teams, across ITP companies. The Arabic edition of ArabianBusiness.com now has a loyal readership of 5000 visitors every day. The Web site launched barely two months ago. The English-language site now regularly showcases the work of ITP journalists to 25,000 visitors every weekday - and has now overtaken its closest rival, Zawya.com, by a margin.

A stellar example of collaboration between print and online is this month's Arabian Business Rich List. ITP Digital worked hand in hand with ITP Executive to put together the list of the 50 richest Arabs - which generated a record 100,000-plus page impressions on its first day of publication.

This is something that we want to do much more of as we move into 2008.

Elsewhere at Digital ITP Tickets showed that it is more than capable of managing the ticket sales of massive events. They don't come bigger than Justin Timberlake or the Dubai 7s - but ITP Tickets, led by Hitesh Uchil, managed to get tickets in the hands of thousands of very happy people in a timely and well ordered fashion.

Last but not least ITP Digital looks forward to welcoming James Bennett who starts as the new Editor in Chief of ArabianBusiness.com this Thursday. James joins from ITP Executive after a hugely successful stint as the Editor of Arabian Business and as group editor of three of its new magazines. We look forward to having him on board.

A record Digital sales month for Spectrum with all sides of the business Retail and External reporting good levels of business both from existing and new clients.

Copies of the paper were simultaneously printed at Spectrum as the paper went to press in its home countries ready for distribution early morning. We look forward to working again with WSJ in the near future.

A number of new Variable Print campaigns were started in November in conjunction with existing clients planning second and third campaigns furthering the case for personalised printing and how companies are embracing it as part of their marketing mix.  Well done to Graeme Selby for pulling in the "whales" and to Daniel Rodgers for his copy writing / design prowess which has ensured they are landed!
